The Jio Institute is located in Navi Mumbai which was established by the Reliance Industries Ltd and Reliance Foundation. It is a multidisciplinary higher education institution that aspires to improve research efforts and foster an entrepreneurial and innovative culture. In 2018, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, released a letter of intent to establish the Jio Institute as a Greenfield Institute under the UGC (Institutions of Eminence Deemed to be Universities) Regulations.
